The Willis JA-3 is an experimental rocket plane developed after World War 2.

Background[]

Built by the Willis Aircraft Corporation, the JA-3 is test flown by a former B-17 pilot, Lt. Col. Matthew "Matt" Brennan, at the suggestion of his wartime sweetheart, Joan "Jo" Holloway, secretary of the CEO of Willis Aircraft.

The aircraft featured an escape crew capsule, something rarely seen in aviation, and a drag chute in the tail

Behind the Scenes[]

For ground scenes the aircraft was represented by a non flyable mock-up, built from a Bell P-39 Airacobra. For flying scenes, the aircraft was depicted either by a scale model, or an F-86 Sabre Jet.
